My 12-year-old daughter doesn't want to spend any time on the computer. Should I be worried?
You have a unique situation on your hands -- most parents can't get their kids off the computer. Still, you shouldn't be worried. Perhaps your daughter just likes seeing her friends in person or enjoys other offline activities. Even so, it wouldn't hurt to show your daughter some computer skills that she'll definitely need when she goes to high school or enters the workforce one day. For example, she should know how to search the Internet for useful information, and how to send an email. Also, it's a good idea to teach her some word processing basics so she can type, format and print school reports. Is she into photography or vintage clothes? Teach her how to use a photo-editing program or how to find online consignment stores. That way, she'll learn how to use the computer -- getting techy-savvy in the process -- while doing something she enjoys.
